Aromatic herbs, dried fruits, snacks, and edible flowers from Ecuador, all sourced through agroecological practices.
In Ecuador, the culture of herbal teas and aromatic infusions—often affectionately called "agua de vieja"—is huge. La Divina Papaya experiments with the possibilities of our native flora for these infusions, offering them to a wide audience. We wanted to create an identity that felt authentic and artisanal, yet sophisticated enough to stand out on any shelf or in any pantry.
We created a packaging system inspired by the nature and textiles of the Andes. It is vibrant, colorful, and designed to expand through the endless combination possibilities of the modules. Flowers, fruits, and natural elements like water, sun, and earth create mosaics that frame La Divina Papaya’s products, allowing them to continue developing new items within a system that, while replicable, never feels repetitive.
The project began with the packaging design for their herbal blends. The iconic cylindrical packaging for La Divina Papaya was already established, so we built our work around it. Although these were individual pieces, we knew their future plans included expanding into other products, so we designed a modular system that could be replicated and adapted to different formats.
To ground this project, we conducted extensive research into where the raw materials are grown: at the foothills of the Cayambe volcano in the Andes, home to a unique flora and fauna that inspired the illustrated icons for the brand. We placed these icons within colorful modules that connect and combine with one another, drawing inspiration from the geometric construction of regional textiles.
